Our Academic Program of Excellence for Year 7, 8, and 9 is designed to foster the academic prowess of our students by providing them with opportunities to reach their full potential. This Program is dedicated to offering extension and enrichment in the core subjects of Mathematics, Science, English, History, and Geography, thereby catering to the intellectual needs of our talented students.
The curriculum is tailored to provide an in-depth study of the core subjects while also presenting wider avenues for extension materials and activities, thereby allowing our students to explore their intellectual horizons to the fullest. Students in the Program will retain the same class schedules and elective options as their peers, with their progress being evaluated against the Australian Curriculum standards.
Our Program is a platform where our academically gifted students can excel and realise their full potential by engaging in stimulating and challenging coursework, supported by a well-structured and thoughtfully designed curriculum and provides a nurturing learning environment for high-achieving students who are capable of working at an advanced pace for collaborative learning, and encouragement for independent learning.
Criteria to be considered for Enrolment at Wavell State High School:
Behaviour, effort and attendance standards of excellent and/or very good is expected.
Criteria to be considered for the Academic Program of Excellence:
Applicants for our programs must demonstrate strength in their previous academic studies and a strong capacity for involvement in school activities. Students will be required to sit an examination set by the Australian Council of Education Research which will be held at Wavell State High School in May.
Wavell will utilise the following information to determine eligibility for the Program:
- Results of Academic Entrance Exam.
- Students most recent Report Card & NAPLAN Results.
- Resumé of activities and achievements over the past two years.
- Answers to Learning Reflection questions on the Programs of Excellence application form.
