School Nurse

​​​​​The School Based Youth Health Nurse (SBYHN) provides one-on-one health consultations with state high school students, providing them with advice and support on their health care needs. They also work with Education Queensland staff to assist students and their families with identified health concerns and refer them to the appropriate services.


Topics that School Based Youth Health Nurse helps with may include:
  • ​​Feeling sad, worried or angry
  • Relationships and sexuality
  • Healthy eating and exercise
  • Personal or family problems
  • Growth and development
  • Smoking, vaping, alcohol and other drugs.

Confidentiality

Young people have the right to confidentiality when accessing health services.
Confidentiality means not talking to others about your personal stuff. The School Based Youth Health Nurse respects your privacy but there are some things the nurse must act upon. They will discuss this with you at your appointment.

How to access this service

Young people or parents/career can self-refer or a referral can be made by school staff or a health professional.
