Student BYOx On-Boarding Process for Personally Owned Laptops

For any student wishing to participate in the voluntary Wavell SHS BYOx program, the following requirements must be satisfied:

1.      Students need to ensure that their laptop has an up to date Anti-Virus program installed. The anti-virus software product AVG or AVAST is suggested as being suitable.

2.      Ensure the personally owned device (laptop) to be joined to the school network satisfies Wavell’s minimum specifications. Students need to have “local administrator” rights for their personally owned device.)

3.      Students must complete the BYOx Student Charter (refer to the link on this page).

4.      Students must bring back the signed section from the BYOx Student Charter to the IT HOD at IT Services (D04).

5.      An IT Services Technician will add the student to the BYOx Group in Active Directory.

6.      The student is then registered as a BYOx student. Several files necessary to "on-board" and to connect to BYOx printer and network resources are then installed on the student's device. (Note: The BYOx app must be run everyday the student brings their device to connect at school.)

7.      Once students have completed all the necessary requirements, they will be given a card which identifies the student as being a BYOx participant. The card will have the name of the student written on the front and on the back will be a stamp with a signature and date. Students bringing a BYOx device into a class must show the teacher of the class this card to be able to use their BYOx device.

8.        For devices running Windows operating systems (7, 8 or 10), students “self-join” by following the instructions in the document "BYOx Connecting Windows Devices" (refer to the link on this page).

9.        For Mac laptops running the operating system Yosemite or El Capitan, students "self-join" by following the instructions in the document "BYOx - On-Boarding a Mac Laptop Device" (refer to the link on this page).

On the school intranet site there is information on how to download software available for student BYOx devices. (Note: the link on the intranet only works while the student is at school.)

(Note: It is a condition of participation in the BYOx program that the Resource Hire Scheme fees are either paid or a payment plan has been put in place.)
