Wavell High hosts Papua New Guinea 16 Years

​PNG Players receive their Wavell Jersey

​Thursday the 20th of June saw Wavell state High schools 16 year old Rugby League Excellence class members take on the Papua New Guinean Rugby Leagues National Schoolboy development squad. Hailing from Port Moresby to the Highlands the PNG tourists were playing their first game on Australian soil against one of Brisbane’s premier Rugby League nurseries

In a game that was played at a furious pace, from the outset, Wavell High scored the first try of the encounter. The PNG players were not taking a backward step and continued pressuring the Wavell team, throughout the game.  Tries to Wavell players Michael Molo, Justin Timu, Caleb Crossley-Price and Cameron Jones allowed the Wavell team to run out eventual winners 22 points to 14.

Joshua Fauid was voted by the Papuan team as Wavell’s best player and the Wavell students presented the PNG team members with a souvenir jersey as a memento of their first game in Brisbane. The PNG team continue their development tour with games for the 16 and 18 years teams playing Ipswich SHS, Queensland PNG and Redcliffe Dolphins over the coming week.
