Swimming Carnival 2014 - Permission Note

Dear Parents/Caregivers/Students,

The 2014 Swimming Carnival will be held in the third week of Term 1 on Tuesday 11th February at The Valley Pool. Students will attend form meetings as usual for roll marking. We will then bus students to The Valley Pool for the carnival. At the completion of the Carnival students will return to school by bus in time for normal transport home. In 2013, we had approx 80% of the school population attend. In 2014, we are aiming for a higher level of student participation. There will be no organised timetabled lessons at school on the day. Details of the day are listed below:

DATE – Tuesday 11th February 2014

COST – cost has been covered in the student levy for 2014

TRAVEL – Chartered Buses under teacher supervision to and from the venue. Students will depart school at approx 9.00am and return at approx 2.40pm. Students who do not require public transport home will be dismissed from 2.40pm at school. Students who do require public transport will be supervised at school until their public transport arrives.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE STUDENTS TO ORGANISE THEIR OWN TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE VENUE. ALL STUDENTS MUST ARRIVE AT SCHOOL BY 8.45AM, ATTEND FORM MEETING AND TRAVEL ON THEIR DESIGNATED BUS.

Dress – Students are to wear their school sports uniform to school. Students can change into their house colours once they arrive at school. Students are reminded that they will need to be dry when travelling home on the bus. Students may wear house coloured T-shirts and shorts, coloured zinc and sun creams, streamers, banners but no Balloons are permitted. Under no circumstances will the Valley Pool staff allow students to take balloons into the venue.

What to Bring - The covered grandstand will accommodate all our students. However students will require swimmers, hat, water bottle and sun cream. Students are encouraged to bring the Wavell bucket hat and a rash vest to swim in. There will be a canteen in operation on the day, but students are encouraged to bring their own Health Smart food for the day. Students are reminded that it is a normal school day and normal school rules apply. Students are also reminded that mobile phones and MP3/4 players are not permitted.

Events – Events will start at approx 9.45am. There will be championship [50/100m] and participation [25m] events for swimmers of all ability levels. Parental support is encouraged. There is no charge for parent entry into the pool. The pool will be closed for the duration of the carnival except for Wavell students, staff and parents.
