Wavell State High is very highly regarded in the community and was named by the Australian Newspaper as being one of the 40 most excellent schools in Australia - 2004. Wavell caters for Years 8 to 12 in a co-educational environment with enrolments accepted from a wide geographic area.

The school has many excellent facilities including a well provided Library/Resource Centre, seven well equipped computer laboratories, two sporting ovals and an indoor sports hall.
